23 September 2026 Post Hurricane Update
I'm thankful to report no damage to our residence in Koloa or to our Aikane Kauai Vacation Home in Poipu which is near the ocean but beyond the storm surge zone. Water and cell service stayed on. We lost power and quickly set our guests up with a backup power system as the storm passed. This kept food cold and devices charged. Our rooftop solar heater continued to provide hot showers. The airport and several stores were re-open within hours of the 'all clear'. Grid power was back within 2½ days.

Comfort and Energy
I designed our home for cross ventilation with the cooling trade winds. For added comfort, we have quiet, ductless split-system air conditioners. Your exclusive covered parking at the front door is especially nice on a warm Hawaiian day. Hot water and electricity are provided by the abundant Poipu sunshine with automatic, instant backup when needed. We also provide filtered water to eliminate the need to purchase bottled water and on-site recycling bins.
Families are Welcome
Our home is among the closest to Poipu Beach Park with a protected, sandy bottom lagoon, expansive grassy areas and playground equipment. We provide beach toys, a beach wagon, pak-n-play, high chair and a baby gate for the stairs.
Travel Light
Our home comes complete with about everything needed for a fun, island vacation. In addition to the list above, we provide drip coffee makers, coffee grinder, laundry detergent and lots more.
Recommendations
We recommend bringing or renting your own mask, snorkel, fins, and life jacket, if desired, to ensure a proper fit. We have plenty of beach gear but not in every size. You are welcome to see what we have before renting. Boogie boards and umbrellas are not provided as they easily break under normal use. We also recommend trip insurance to protect against the unexpected, including weather, illness, strikes, or other unforeseen circumstances. We purchase it ourselves when we travel.
House Configuration
The kitchen, living room and dining area are on the upper floor with a full suite on first floor. Bedroom 1 has a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom with double walk-in shower.
Flexible Sleeping Arrangements
Our home comfortably sleeps up to six guests + 1 infant.
Bedroom 1: king bed
Bedroom 2: 2 twins, or convert to king size
Bedroom 3: 2 twins, or convert to king size
House total: 3 to 5 real beds plus a pack-n-play.
When requested, twin beds will be converted to king size before arrival by securing a heavy horizontal strap then center piece and king-size mattress topper then finished with quality bedding — a comfortable setup as confirmed by our many returning guests.
Why Choose Poipu
Poipu is on the sunnier, drier side of Kauai with fabulous beaches, snorkeling, amenities and coastal walks, including the Mahaluepu Heritage Trail, in the immediate area. This is an excellent base for exploring the island as we are roughly equidistant from the lush North Shore and, in the opposite direction, west side beaches, sweeping vistas and the many hikes and walks in Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Park.
